Database Synchronization

Q. If I normally use a network database, but I want to place it onto a laptop for a business trip, how can I ensure that any changes I make on the laptop will then be made to the network database when I get back?

A. What you will need to use is our database synchronization in order to use your network database offline. Here are the instructions to set that up:

1. In ContactEase, create a new Access database on your laptop using File, New. I would name the database so you know that it is synchronized from the network, i.e. localcopy.mdb.
2. With the new database now open, select File, Synchronize, Settings, click Next in the Overview dialog.
3. Choose the Merge local and network databases, click Next.
4. Using the Browse button, select your network database, click Next.
5. In the Syncrhonization schedule dialog you can choose to be prompted to sync with the network database either when the local database is opened or closed. If you uncheck both options you can run the sync manually using the File, Synchronize, Synchronize Now menu option. If you do choose to be prompted, you will have to select No when offline.

When using this synchronization, any records that are added, modified, or deleted in your local database, the changes will be synchronized the next time you sync with your network database.
