Importing and Exporting

Q. Is it possible to export from ContactEase to vCard or LDIF format.?

A. There are two possible ways to do this:

If you sync from ContactEase to Outlook, you can then create Vcards in Outlook.

You can also create a Vcard through the MAPI interface by finding the record in the ContactEase MAPI Address Book, clicking on it, and then selecting Add to Personal Address Book, this will create a Vcard.

Q. In ContactEase, is it possible to export data to an Excel file?

A. You can export to Excel via File/Tools/Export.  Excel is one of the options in the output list, but you can also export as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file, which Excel can open as well.

Q. When using an Excel file to import records into ContactEase, an error message comes up saying “Cannot open file”.

A. The Excel file needs to be saved as a Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook format. Then use this file for the import. You could also use the Save As in Excel and convert the spreadsheet to a CSV text file. That format is pretty standardized and works the best. Something to watch out for is word wrap characters within the data. This might happen if you have an address with more than one line in a single cell. It’s best to separate multi-line addresses into separate columns for address1, address2 and so forth.
